Book sales are a big part of the Friends of the Anoka County Library (FACL) fundraising efforts for Anoka County Library. Friends has raised over $42,000 for the benefit of the Anoka County Library since it began holding book sales in 2021. Each of the last three book sales raised over $3,000.00 for ACL.
Three book sales are held annually, in October/November, January, and May. The next three book sales will be held at the following locations:
- November 14, 10-4:00, Rum River Library, 4201 6th Ave, Anoka, MN 55303
- January 30, 2027, 10-4:00, Northtown Library, 711 County Hwy 10 NE, Blaine, MN 55434
- May 1, 2027, 10-4:00, Centennial Library, 100 Civic Heights Cir, Circle Pines, MN 55014
Books included in the sale may come from publishers, regular library weeding processes, and community donations. FACL has no storage space to store donations ahead of the book sales. We do not pick up books from people’s homes. If you would like to donate gently used books to a sale, please bring them to the sale library on the day before the sale:
- November 13, 1-4:30 pm
- January 29, 1-4:30 pm
- April 30, 1-4:30 pm
DONATION GUIDELINES
Books: Donated books should be in good condition without ripped pages or markings, and should be free of any odor that may indicate mold or mildew. We do not take adult reference or text books. Of course, we prefer books published in the last twenty years, especially for non-fiction titles. We understand it is tough to toss or even recycle books but typically that is what we have to do. We would appreciate your consideration when donatingyour books. If you need help in determining whether we’d accept your books, please see these guidelines.
Videorecordings: We do not accept VHS or older formats.
Audiorecordings: We accept most audio formats, but prefer CDs, including music and audiobooks.
Games and puzzles: We accept games and puzzles with no missing pieces.
Special collections: If you have a “special collection” in good condition, like puppets, sheet music, or cookware that you wish to donate please contact us prior to the book sale at [email protected].
WHAT DO WE DO WITH ITEMS THAT DO NOT SELL?
We would love to sell every item at our sales for the benefit of the library. Unfortunately, there are always items left over. With Anoka County Library’s help, we give as many books as possible to organizations who can better distribute books to those in need, like Better World Books, Books for Africa, and the Women’s Prison Book Project. We have also donated books to Anoka County Corrections, elder care facilities, Family Pathways, Good Will, and several schools.
